Swype? The latest and greatest on touchscreen typing?

[this is good]
WritingPad, an iPhone app does something very similar. I've used it extensively (especially with the non-qwerty arrangement), I have to say it pretty amazing!

I love it. But I don't think it has a future, here's why...

1. Any word over 5 letters is tricky.
2. Advances in wide context based A.I. will massively improve standard virtual qwerty touch keyboards within the next 5 years.
3. Robust speech recognition will replace 90% of all keyboards (of any kind) within the next 10 years.

In short, this technology - as superb as it is - will be redundant in just a few years.
I think miniqwerty and haptic touchscreens will rule. People still want to write e-mails or sms without reading them outloud to their phones and get tactile feedback on their inputdevice. Voice recognition will become standard for car use though. Perhaps subvocalised voice commands and accellerator sensors for bluetooth headset/controller combo's.

I disagree strongly! ^_^

Most people enjoy talking, very few enjoy typing.

That's all you really need to know to realise that speech recognition will eventually win out - and probably sooner then we think.

I realise that there are privacy issues, but that's where sub-vocalization recognition will take over. ^_-

Can you tell that I hate keyboards!!?? Sorry for the rant.

We both agree it seems ;^)
This tech looks promising. Thanks for the info.
