U.S.A. targeted N95 with improved battery?

Sorry to burst your bubble, the it is looking like the US version is upping the internal memory (RAM) from 64MB to 128MB.
hmm for some reason part of my post was cut off. The S60 OS uses about 40MB for operation leaving the Europe N95 with about 20MB free. So upping the memory to 128MB (similar to the E90) will leave about 80MB free for apps. the 160MB of storage space is FlashROM not RAM
I think I will go for the b-powerstick and try this.
As far as I understod the new battery is not compatible with the current version of the N95. First you need the new backcover. Will see whether an upgrade is possible. Otherwise we have the b-powerstick . :-)

Hi DeadLock32, I doubt it is FlashROM. Since it is used as a RAM-drive. It is some kind of static RAM, since data remains when you pull the power. The N95 probabely does have some FlashROM, that is where the Firmware resides and the latest firmware was more than 110 MB. So the FlashROM is most likely above that.

40 MB of RAM used during RunTime by Symbian seems a bit much to me. But okay, I guess I'll just have to be jealous. An addtional 64 MB should really give a huge difference in browsing and multitasking applications. Especially the occasional crashing of Maps after an incoming phonecall could be prevented. At least it's now clear where the 25% power is needed for. The USA version did have the same standby time specified as the European version.

A new backcover is not that difficult. The current one can just be pulled off.
LOL, humm a larger capacity battery.
What a surprise ;-)

Have to admit I like the idea of the recessed camera on the back too. The current sliding door mechanism isn't really all that useful, and it's one more moving part that could malfunction.
The current shutter has the advantage to keep dust and sand away from the lens if you put he phone in your pocket. The new model is thus more scratchsensitive and a pictures with a dirty lens are usually noticed at home and not on the phone's screen.

Still you might be able to convert your current N95 to the new shutter. I doubt if they completely redesigned the phone. So just you might only need to replace shutter, the backcover and the battery . These three items are already for sale available as replacement parts on the internet. Just not the new version of them yet...

Still number uno is the memory enhancement I think.

This is true, the cover does help keep the lens scratch free, but unfortunately it is really easy to close the photo app, and forget that one must manually close the covers, thus debris collects in the cavity. The raised sliding section that opens the cover is prone to sliding open when pushed into a tight jeans pocket too.
The cover feature smacks of 'the marketing dept thought this would be a good idea'' without any proper usability testing done.
My Pentax doesn't have a lens cover and its survived being dunked in the sea and pocket lint.

A cheap replaceable rear cover would be a better for protecting the lens I reckon.

Phones do not belong in tight jeans. CocaCola shaped thing do. Still a new shutter costs only 19 euro. But yeah the designers should have turned the shutterslider 90 degrees. That should have solved it for most parts. Silly buggers.
Yes, I also agree highend phones don't belong in tight or loose jeans. The N95 must be contained in a premium case to protect it from its often careless end user.

Nope, the case is there to prevent the battery being drained due to contineously sliding the N95 open. Stuffing the phone in a tight backpockets tends to deform your buttock permanently. A sorry sight I tell you, having a butt holed. The N95 is designed to be stuck on your belt, so the battery charger can be stuffed in the front trouser pocket so none will see the contineous charging wire to well.

N93's are carried as a multifunctional utility brick for selfdefense. iPhone's, I said all about that in this post.
