Nokia's OVI site suggests playing Fifa `08. Nokia's nseries now carries 'N-Gage is Live'. We could say it is now officially online. The game of the week changed this monday from System Rush to Hooked On and they added Fifa `08 to the list of available games.
Just logged into n-gage preview and they told me to goto the www.n-gage.com page and download+install the n-gage application there! Currently there is support for the following phones:
- Nokia N81
- Nokia N81 8GB
- Nokia N82
- Nokia N95
- Nokia N95 8GB
The N73, the N93 and the N93i are said to be expected to be added soon. Currently the download is running and installation will be soon ;-)
Update: Installation went smooth. No problems. Registering went allright allthough it would not take my e-mail adres. I'll have to try that later again.
Current games available are
- System Rush Evolution
- Asphalt 3: Street Rules
- Brain Challenge
- World Series Poker
- Hooked On
Update 2: Several game prices seem to have been upgraded to 9 euros.
It's looks like first access is nearly over and Nokia is planning to open N-gage 2.0 for all us N-series fans. Why, how, where did I get this info? From my trusty N95 of course. Where else.
I had the N-gage first access installed on my N95, my curiosity is indomitable and I just needed to have that peek at what's coming. Initially it worked for a while until Nokia started checking on device types and the showroom with the First Access Games became empty and void on my N95 classic. Still I managed to buy System Rush Evolution before they closed it ;-). It runs without problems and multiplayer worked too even after the close down! Compared to the SRE demo on the N95 the hardware graphics are missing. But this could be because the N81 lacks the hardware 3D graphics that the N95 has.
And today the showroom is packed again with all the First Access Games the N81 users have access to. Clearly N-Gage 2.0 is preparing for allowing access by the other N-series types. It won't be long until there is a formal announcement is made and the N-Gage application becomes available for all the N-Gage compatible phones.
N-Gage 2.0 looks great, well designed and user friendly, with all the functions needed for social gaming and multi-player ranking but one. Which one thing you ask? Ahhh, there
is nothing better than to hear your friends scream their frustration when
you push their digital Ferrari off the road into a ravine. Thus where
is my voice-link in the multi-player games? Really text messaging is nice,
but not during gaming ;-) It is really hazardous to your health points.
Have a look what is coming your way 'real soon now'. AAS has a review here.
With some help of the posts by Symbian guru and All About Symbian I managed to get n-gage running on my N95 classic. Check their posts and make sure to install the n-gage application on the memory card! Can't wait till lunch ;-)
Update:
Yeah it runs like a dream. Flawless installation, smooth user-interface. Volume control and screen orientation settings. A bit troublesome with the network connections. As far as a quick lunchtime look allows, it's looking great.
Yeah, finally some action on the n-gage front. All About Symbian and Symbian-Freak reported that N-gage First Access is here for the Nokia N81. The download app checks the device type, so no joy for most of us. Yet finally things are on the move again. Check Nokia's N-Gage site yourself and see the proof.
Also Worms World Party is announced for N-Gage 2.0. One of the best multiplayer games available. Nothing better than stomp your friends worms with a stone donkey, super banana bombs or see a ming vase blow up in his face ;-)
A java version was already available for the N95 and its bretheren. It ran however somewhat unstable on my N95. A native solution would be great. Even better if the game is not tied to my phone but to a n-gage account. I could take it with me to my next Nokia smart phone ;-). Which is a very subtle way of Vendorlocking me!
Where is my Nokia Music store, where are my supercool nextgen n-gage games? Why do I have a My Nokia application that has no function? It is not supported in 'your' country. Where do I live? In bonga bonga land, where internet is a 500 km drive? No, I live in a country with the highest internet density of the whole EU, a bloody 80%.
My Nokia Music store, yeah sure anywhere but here. Where is it available? Only in the UK. Not that I would care, its all drm. I'd rather buy at itunes or another company drm-free music. In fact l like to have hard copies of my music. I buy the CD's, rip'em, stuff the CD's somewhere safely in a box and then use the mp3's on my phone and pc until the day all my harddrives crash simulataneous.... Still it is a matter of principle.
Worse is even the nextgen n-gage stuff, lovely demo's, mouthwatering promises, scheduled for november, no wait december, no wait... wait we are rolling out slowly... sure. Some when and where in december.I am sure there won't be here and definitely when won't be before Christmas for this guy. Bedevilling N-gage statements. No-gage-ing when Satan Clause finds my mobile cellphone... But without free voice navigation, and GPS tracking switched off it might be a tad difficult ;-)
Well you think, lets buy a N810, just to have a nice gadget to do Skype with, watch YouTube video's and more. Yeah they are released... Wait, only in the U.S.A. Ehhh, what? Great I'll order there... No sorry sir, export limitations, we are not allowed to sell them to Europe. `Scuse me, Finland that's part of the EU, is it not?` We can sell them hightech, but they can't sell it back to us? The devil they can. Or as the finnish say it far more impolite: Perkele!
By the time this is really available I'll have moved on to my next smart(ing) phone with a touchy interface. Wether it is called Eve's Apple or Nokia gag, I don't care. I want my monthly shot of a new gadget. And it should be real with solid software and not a wet dream of viral adds full of mobile hats you can't order... ;-)
And while we are at it, why is there no video calling over wifi supported? SIP is great, but why did they stop at audio?
Drat, I am not that impatient, am I? I want to live in the future, but there is no time machine... So get cracking Nokia!
Lay off the koskenkorva and get busy!
P.S. Original koskenkorva was destilled from fermented potato peals. Nowadays it's just industrial alcohol watered down for 'humane' consumption.
Tired of playing with the acellerometer light saber application and want to get serious?
Today Nokia World 2007 started and they showed a new game for the coming n-series n-gage platform:
The N-Gage website has some interesting information. The following devices will be N-Gage compatible: Nokia N73, Nokia N81, Nokia N81 8GB, Nokia N93, Nokia N93i, Nokia N95, and the Nokia N95 8GB. Nokia will continue to announce N-Gage compatibility with a wide range of S60 Nokia devices on an ongoing basis. There are some interesting games announced.
